Durian
I can't believe durian isn't on here. Yes, it smells so bad, it is banned in public places, even where people love the stuff.
The fruit looks like this - I use the term fruit loosely, but that is the common nomenclature
When open, you will be able to smell it down wind a long ways -
When you touch it, it has this slimy, rotted feel to it, which matches the smell
It has the mouthfeel of a huge clump of someone else's snot.
It leaves a coating on your mouth, kind of like a huge lump of cold lard would in the mouth.
Surprisingly, the taste is not that bad, actually mild and quite nondescript - if you can get past the texture and the smell.
Surprisingly, as allergic as I am to most fruit, this is one to which I do not react.
My advice - eat it freeze dried. Mild taste, firm texture, almost no smell of corpse.
Kokoretsi
This is a Greek sausage that is made of hunks (not ground up bits) of all the organs and bits that should be fed to pets. With all the tastes of bile (liver), pee (kidney) , blood(heart), and tripe and other unidentified bits, you want to feed it to the local stray dogs, but you can't. Once you give them a scrap, they will be on your table, trying for more. You don't want to lose your saganaki or souvlaki.
Century Egg
These eggs are preserved in ash, lime, rice husks, salt and various other ingredients. I am not a fan of eggs that are not cooked into chocolate cake, but I gave it a try.
Strong sulfur and ammonia - basically a Biblical taste of hell
