My Mom and Dad are considered not as strict as other neighbor parents. They are quite flexible and comfortable with what we do but there is one thing that has never been allowed in my hair - COLORFUL HAIR DYEING
Tet (Lunar New Year) is coming, everyone wants to look the most beautiful and handsome during the biggest holidays of the year. So, around a week ago, my younger brother, still a student, was very eagerly having his hair dye in BLUE for the first time ever hoping our parents and friends at home would “wow” with his new hair style.
And finally, he had a new hair color:
Two days ago, he reached home to visit and stay with my parents during the holidays. The moment my Mom saw him, she kept talking and complaining and immediately pushed him to re-dye his hair and even didn’t allow him to step out of our house because “others would see him”.
Within that morning, my Dad took him to the beauty salon and got his hair dye in dark brown before everyone could witness him in blue.
Me and my sister was dying laughing with how our parents reacted to a blue hair and feel pity for our brother but we can do nothing else rather than follow HER words.
My brother - after the “reverse transformation”, look a bit disappointed!
For our parents and the older generation back at my village, dyeing your hair in bright colors is considered something very “against the social norms” and whoever dyes their hair in bright color is considered a “playboy” or “bad girl”.
My parents are not very traditional but there are something that are a hundred percent a NO in our family like getting a blue hair and a tattoo.
