He had no intention of winning.

I am probably going to get down voted out of existence for this, but…

Hillary Clinton was dead set and determined to be president. It was her turn and she had years to plan.

She co-opted an old family friend and wealthy real estate con artist to run as a GOP candidate. She also made sure he had plenty of media coverage for his outrageous antics.

She took complete control of the DNC, installing her people and donating money.

She arranged for the votes of the party’s super delegates.

Her primary opponent was allowed to switch to the Democratic Party to run against her and lose.

Unfortunately her well laid and well paid for plans went awry; she had grossly underestimated the general population’s huge discontent with political system and the way the country was being run. Donald Trump did about everything he could to sabotage his own candidacy, from a traditional perspective, and it gained him incredible media coverage. It also gained him a voter base that was largely undereducated and emotionally driven.

It gets worse. Her opponent in the primary, a previously unknown, old, self proclaimed democratic socialist (and Jewish besides! Please don’t bother with accusations of anti Semitic bias. Far from it) that was supposed to run poorly and concede gracefully started kicking her ass. She couldn’t fill a gymnasium and he was packing stadiums to overflowing.

I’ll skip over how poorly the DNC treated Bernie Sanders, the voter suppression tactics, etc.

Something rather unexpected happened towards the end of the primary. Russia got involved. Putin and Clinton have never got along, and from Putin’s perspective Trump was by far the preferable candidate. In debt to him, manipulatable and not overly intelligent. The DNC was exposed through Wikileaks for what it was. The DNC was caught flat footed, deer in the headlights and independent voters that were not die hard HRC fans were more than a little alienated.

With all that had happened in the primary contest, by the time Trump and Clinton’s Big Day rolled around most of us thought our vote didn’t matter. Clinton was inevitable. There was no way Cheetoo Head could end up in the Oval Office.

I don’t think he wanted to be president at first, I don’t think he believed he would win. He had no transition plans, no appointments lined up, no preparation at all. He also hadn’t considered, couldn’t really conceive of the scrutiny he would be under. He couldn’t imagine the skeletons that would burst out of every closet and pile very publically in a Trump Tower size heap.

So, there you have it. He wasn’t supposed to win. Until the very end he didn’t really want to win, but hubris and karma are a real bitch, combined they are an unbeatable and toxic combination.

I am looking forward to watching him and hopefully all his money burn. While I doubt he’ll ever be homeless, the thought of the secret service guarding a broken old man sleeping in a cardboard box…(sorry, God. Please forgive that thought.)
