Yes.
Or rather, censoring myself would have been an easy way for me to get where I wanted to go in life. Instead, as a university student, I received lower grades by stating my true opinion than I would have by parroting the leftist beliefs espoused by three of my undergraduate professors who also happened to be drinking buddies, and another who was openly Marxist and studied philosophy at Marquette.
Not only was I given lower grades, but I was regularly mocked for my views in front of the class. One of the professors in question even flatulated in my face while walking up and down the rows of desks during lecture, after I had made a point she couldn't refute. I really wish I would have had the presence of mind to bring a recorder to class and document their behavior, but at least I can warn others and hope they learn from my mistakes.
I have wavered in the past about whether I'd encourage others to speak up, or to regurgitate the leftist position. I now firmly, and unequivocally come down on the side of advocating for courage: Speak the truth and be prepared to accept the consequences! Nevertheless, make sure you have prepared to the best of your ability for all contingencies, and record and document everything!
