Here's what I consider to be the WORST Star Trek episode ever: "Code of Honor"

It's a first-season embarrassment that involves the TNG crew trying to get a much-needed medical vaccine from Ligon II ... a planet full of stereotypical tribal black people, dressed in garb that borrows equally from African, Middle-Eastern and Indian stereotypes (ex. turbans, harem pants, etc.). The Ligonian leader, Lutan, even speaks with an accent that sounds like it comes straight out of an old '30s serial.

So Lutan decides he wants a white woman (Tasha Yar) to be his "First One" (i.e. his first wife), and kidnaps her. Shenanigans ensue, including a bizarrely relaxed and nonchalant discussion among the TNG crew about whether or not this kidnapping was really a "counting coup". Later on, there's another bizarre discussion about whether Tasha is in fact attracted to Lutan (because a guy kidnapping you out of the blue so that he can force you into marriage is totally hot - ?).

Eventually Tasha Yar is caught in a to fight to the death with Lutan's current "First One" Yareena, who really doesn't like Tasha taking her top spot. (The fight has sometimes been compared to the fight between Spock and Kirk from "Amok Time"...though it was not nearly the shining example of cheesy gold that that fight was). Some more shenanigans ensue so that Tasha wins the fight while not killing Yareena, and at the end, Yareena is absolved of the First One bond tying her down to Lutan (as Tasha technically won the contest), and takes some guy named Hagon as her First One, while Lutan sulks back to Ligon II a sorry sap, and the TNG crew leave the stupid planet with their stupid vaccine. Happily Ever After, the end.

But me describing it isn't enough - you kinda have to see it for yourself to see how racist and dumb this story is. I mean, it makes most of Season 1 (much of which was sloppily-written dreck) look like masterpieces of TV drama.

And I'm not alone in thinking this is the one of the worst, if not THE worst, episode of TNG. Jonathan Frakes, among other cast members, actually tried to stop this episode from being re-aired (and they clearly failed).

As a comical side note, it was the only episode of TNG that Garrett Wang saw for years. Years later, after finally realizing what a great show TNG actually was, he ended up played Ensign Kim on "Voyager", which in my opinion is comic irony at is best, considering how uneven and terrible "Voyager" could be, and what a lame character Ensign Kim was.
