There are lots of ways to interpret the question. I'd like to keep my answer concise and high-level, and provide specific follow-ups on related questions that people are interested in.

So the short answer: it's f***ing awesome. Why?

  • I am surrounded by smart, trustworthy, capable, creative people, driven to achieve something meaningful for humanity. Every. Single. One.
  • I am given the responsibility, authority, and flexibility I need to work towards goals set by both the company and by me personally.
  • I am fed delicious, healthy food lovingly prepared by a hard-working and dedicated kitchen staff that achieves greatness on a daily basis.
  • I am given frequent and regular opportunities to learn from my colleagues and from our customers: how to build a better product, how to refine our technology, and how to improve our company.
  • I have a ton of fun at work, and where fun is not provided I am given the latitude to make my own.
  • I'm provided with enough comforts to allow me to focus on our goals and not get too distracted with other things.
  • I believe we will succeed.

I can't tell you what it's like for everyone, but we are a culture of peers and I believe many of my fellow employees feel similarly. I don't feel the above because I'm enjoying some special privilege--other than that of being an Asana employee. If you work for us, I genuinely hope you feel all of these things as well. And if not, we will work to remedy that.

I can elaborate on any of the above. I could go into detail about some of the day-to-day: what tools do I use / how fast is development / where do I get input into features and processes / what kind of feedback do I get, etc? And there are great answers to all of those. In fact, our blog post mentioned in another answer ( http://blog.asana.com/2011/12/a-day-at-asana/ ) is really a good read and provides a very accurate and concrete representation of some of these types of things.

However, at a high level, the bullets above describe what it's like for me, and why I am spoiled for working anyplace else.
