I wouldn't quibble with any of the suggestions previously given. I'd like to add that in the US the train between Los Angeles and San Diego runs right along the Pacific Ocean most of the way, and the views are stunning. Also, the tiny train stations you encounter along the way are lovely little examples of the Spanish Mission style of architecture, and just charming.
