A little-known destination to most tourists, the Sanctuary at Las Lajas in Colombia near the Ecuadorian border is one of the most unexpectedly beautiful places I have ever seen.

It's an enormous gothic cathedral that looks like it was dropped into the middle of a cloud forest in the Andes, suspended over a gorge, with a waterfall nearby. Many people go there to request miracles, and make a pilgrimage out of it. There is something truly beautiful and awe-inspiring about this place.
