I was in my late 30’s, three children, recently divorced, working two jobs, trying to stay afloat. My second job was that of a waitress and I worked a couple nights a week and Sundays. Not a lot of employees wanted the Sunday shift. We were on a major highway for beach traffic. Sunday traffic consisted of sunburned children who were cranky and tired, bad tipping (mostly because they spent too much on amusements, hotels and restaurants) and parents who were regretting having to return to work the next day. Sunday’s could be busy, but mostly, they were on the slow side.

One Sunday, a family of four came into the restaurant and sat down - Dad, Mom, two children – one girl approximately 7 and one boy around 5. It was a slow day and a storm was approaching. The little boy was quite talkative and I found out just about everything they did the week before. They were the only table in the restaurant and ate dinner and relaxed while the storm passed.
I should let you know I love rainbows. I sometimes feel like I am a rainbow chaser. People like me know the look and feel when rainbows should appear in the area. As a matter of fact, my kids to this day, call me when they see a rainbow. That being said, after the storm I noticed that look. Went out back and saw the most beautiful rainbow. (sigh) Checked on the table and asked the parents if I could take their kids to see the rainbow. I could see the glance between them, probably wondering if I was a kidnapper, but that quickly passed as I described the sheer beauty of what was happening right outside the door. Told them we would be right out front and they could come too. They let the children go with me while they paid the bill.
The little boy grabbed my hand and we walked out and sat down on the curb. By now there were two rainbows and working on a third. I explained a little science and the children were just amazed. They had never seen real rainbows only ones in pictures. The parents came out and we all sat there and watched for a few minutes at the wonder of the rainbow. Another car drove into the parking lot and I knew this had to end because I was about to get another customer. We said our goodbyes.
A year later, working one Sunday, I had a family come into the restaurant and sat down - Dad, Mom, two children – one girl and one boy 5. When I approached the table, the little boy jumps up and says to me, “Can you make it happen again?” I of course had no idea what he was referring to. The mom and dad explained they had been in the year before and their little boy told everyone how he met someone who could make rainbows. His sister kept telling her brother that it didn’t work that way and there would not be any rainbow and he should just shut up. The young man was very convinced that I could indeed make it happen. I didn’t know what to do, but I tried to explain as nicely as I could, that I didn’t think we would be able to see a rainbow that day. It was a beautiful sunny day. As I left the table, I could hear the little boy saying to his sister, “You just wait and see.”
Well, if you haven’t figured it out yet, there was a storm that blew in really fast. The sky darkened and it poured for about 5 minutes and then all cleared up and what remained was a beautiful rainbow. Now you may call this a coincidence, miracle, sign from above or just damn amazing. All I know is there was one little boy who proved his sister wrong, amazed his parents and sat with me for a very long time on the curb calling me the rainbow maker. Just to let you know, I got a damn good tip.

Now we had a pretty unique looking cat because of her color and her one ear. Our family had her for 6 years then one weekend when we went camping and came home, we found that she was missing. The best we can explain it is that she may have been in the boat or camper when we went camping and hopped out part way or at the campground.
Fast forward 6 years, I'm 18 dating a girl from another town about 75km away. One day we got talking about pets when we were young and she mentions that her family had a cat named tigger that was a light toffee color. I say: me too. Then she tells me that her cat was unique because it only had a third of an ear. I say me too. I say, it was sad because we lost our cat when I was about 12. She says... interesting, we found our cat when I was 11. Her family found the cat when they were camping in between my city and her town. Turns out, my current wife and I shared the raising of an awesome cat together, 6 years before we married. Our childhood pictures share the same pet even though we didn't meet for another 6 years.
Edit: I know many of you are looking for pictures. I'm now 37 and living 450km from my parents home. The pictures would have been taken between when I was 6 and 12 so between 25 and 30 years ago. I'll work on them but don't hold your breath.

Overpaying on car insurance
You’ve heard it a million times before, but the average American family still overspends by $417/year on car insurance.

I wrote the worst book ever when the world was crashing and more people than ever before in history were committing suicide.
Specifically, December 2008, banks were shutting down, the stock market had it's worst fall ever in history, everyone was losing jobs, homes, families.
That month I published a book on investing. It sold 291 copies. It was the worst timing on the worst book in the worst period in recent history.

That month I published a book on investing. It sold 291 copies. It was the worst timing on the worst book in the worst period in recent history.
I also lost my house and my wife. So one time my kids were visiting me.
I made them come up with me from bookstore to bookstore. Every book I could find, I signed.
And I would put weird little notes on each book. Like, "If you buy this book you will make a Zillion Dollars!"
Or, "If you buy this book, I will grant you three wishes!"
And then I would sign my name. Then I would put the book back on the bookshelf. I was hoping someone would buy the book. I was hoping I would get RICH!
One time I wrote a very particular message on the book. My 6 year old daughter even looked at me when I wrote it and said, "Daddy, what are you doing?"
And I said, "Maybe someone will buy the book because of that message."
It was raining outside. I took them across the street from the bookstore, up to the second floor of a building and there was a magic show going on. In the middle of the world collapsing I was glad there was still magic.
---
Move forward six months.
None of my books sold. My publisher wouldn't return my calls. I had been fired from my job.
I was getting an official divorce now. And my kids would visit me on the weekends.
I was drinking every night and getting really fat and I was constantly sick. Plus I was broke.
In other words, a perfect catch.
Maybe I would spend three or four hours a day on online dating sites. That's how hard a guy like me would have to work to get even one response on a dating site.
Hundreds of messages.
Finally, one woman responded. I won't get into the details of our first few dates. But I liked her. In fact, because of the low levels of emotional maturity I had, I even thought I loved her. Maybe it was true. Maybe it was true.
One time she offered to cook me dinner. So we were going to meet in a bookstore near the train station and then go to her place and she would cook.
I was late.
She remembered I mentioned that even though my last book was about investing, it had a lot of personal stuff written in it.
So she went looking for my book, hoping they would have some.
Not suprisingly, they had not sold a single one of my books in the prior six months. They had about eight of them there. The same number that was there six months earlier when I was signing the books next to my six year old.
She pulled one of the books off the shelves. She was going to read it until I got there.
She flipped it open to the first page and saw that I had already signed the book.
She couldn't believe the message over the signature. She thought maybe I had arrived at the bookstore first and was playing a trick on her.
She looked around. Nobody was there. She looked in the next aisle. Was he here? No, I was late.
Now she and I have been married for the past five years. I am so happy about it. I look at her and think, how did this happen?
Part of the reason, I suspect, is that she believes in signs from a force above.
And perhaps that force above had forced my hand when I wrote a message in that one particular book.
What I wrote in that book that day, with the world collapsing and even my six year old thinking I was crazy:
"I LOVE YOU - James Altucher".

Edit: After discussing with the Mrs., I have decided to add a recent family picture.
The night of 14 November 2009, me and my friend walked into a club in Aberdeen. I was new to the city and looking forward to easing my nerves by dancing away pretty much all night.
As randomness would have it, I bumped into a bunch of girls on the dance floor. I took a liking to one of the girls. She was petite, cute and dare I say, slightly drunk. I still hadn't asked her name. Just before she was about to leave with her friends, I took off my beads from my neck and gave it to her. I still can't describe what made me do that. Given that those beads were a gift from my mom before I left for the UK for my studies, it wasn't easy to give it away to a random person.
Two nights later, I went to that club again. And there she was, wearing my beads. She later told me that she was hoping I would turn up.
Fast forward 5 years 3 months, we are happily married with a 3.5 years old gorgeous daughter.

Coincidences can be intriguing and sometimes even mind-boggling. Here are some notable examples:
- Lincoln and Kennedy: Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy both had strikingly similar life events. Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846, and Kennedy in 1946. Lincoln was elected president in 1860, and Kennedy in 1960. Both were assassinated on a Friday, and both were succeeded by men named Johnson (Andrew Johnson and Lyndon B. Johnson).

- The "Two Daughters" Coincidence: The American playwright, Tennessee Williams, and the British author, Aldous Huxley, each had two daughters, both named "Tennessee" and "Aldous," respectively. This coincidence is often cited in discussions about the oddities of naming.
- The Coincidental Birthdays: In a group of just 23 people, there's about a 50% chance that two individuals share the same birthday. This is known as the birthday paradox and illustrates how coincidences can arise in probability.
- The "Cursed" Number 13: Many people have superstitions about the number 13, but a notable coincidence is that both the Apollo 13 mission and the 13th floor of many buildings are associated with bad luck. Apollo 13, which was supposed to be a routine mission, faced a critical failure, leading to a life-threatening situation for the astronauts.
- The 9/11 Coincidence: In a tragic turn of events, two individuals named William Rodriguez and Michael Rodriguez both had significant experiences on September 11, 2001. William was the last person to exit the Twin Towers, and Michael was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day but was delayed.
- The "Separated at Birth" Stories: Numerous stories exist of twins separated at birth who lead strikingly similar lives without knowing of each other. For example, twins Jim Lewis and Jim Springer were raised in different families but both ended up with similar names, careers, and even pets.
These examples highlight how coincidences can be remarkable, sometimes leading us to ponder deeper connections or just marvel at the randomness of life.

When I was around 10-12 years old my mom pushed me to take Chinese classes during the weekend. She enrolled me into this one small school that had about 6-10 kids per class. I became good friends with a girl named Jen (who was a year younger). After 2 or so years that school closed down and I never had a second thought about the people or the school (yay free weekends!).
Fast forward 2 years. I transfer from a private middle school to a public high school outside my local neighborhood. Found out Jen goes to that school! A year later Jen transfers out to a magnet high school.
Fast forward 5 yea

Fast forward 5 years. I'm a sophomore in college in a diff city ... Find out that Jen will be attending the same college as me! We finally keep in touch a little more (keep in mind we did not keep in touch inbetween all the fallouts). One year later we decide to sign up for Chinese class together (like old times, also for GE sake). One weekend we both ended up traveling back home but separately (we're from the same city - Los Angeles). She left to go back to college (San Diego ~2 hr drive) early and realized she forgot her laptop charger! She calls me up and asks if I'm still in LA. I was. She asks if her mom can drop off the charger for me to bring back. I said yes and gave her my address. My mom being the social Chinese parent she is, was interested in meeting a fellow Chinese friend's parent. Mom comes out with me to greet Jen's mom. Turns out they were close coworkers from over two decades ago. They lost contact after Jen's mom left the company (~18 years ago). A month later Jen gives me a picture (from her mom) of us playing together as toddlers... Apparently my mom donated all my baby clothes to Jen and was even there when her mom gave birth to her.
When I was in fourth grade, I sat across from a guy. We were both awful at math, so we would get back our tests and laugh at our equally horrid scores.
When I was in fifth grade, our class had to play some game. There was an overly peppy woman who had some sort of lollipop activity for the entire class, and she asked for two volunteers. No one volunteered, so she called me and the same guy up. We had to pretend we were married. It was embarrassing, and we went back to our seats with flushed cheeks and our gifted lollipops.

When I was in sixth grade, my friend tells me in that sophomoric, hushed voice: "He has a crush on you!" I remember being on the edge of a slide, and I remember laughing as I slid down. In sixth grade terms, we were now in a relationship.
Later in the year, I moved halfway across the world. We didn't keep in contact. I had dreams scattered throughout those years, and he appeared in a couple of them, if only for a few seconds at a time. I didn't make anything out of it, though. It was just my subconscious being silly, or so it seemed.
I moved back to the same state about eight years later, and I notice on Facebook that we have similar interests. I brush it off. I'm not really one to start conversations, much less with a random boy I talked to years ago.
A few weeks later, he messages me. Asks me if I play League. I'm a little flustered and a little weirded out; I hadn't talked to anyone from elementary school for years, much less him. But I say yes ("Why not?"), and we stay up until 6, just talking.
Turns out we have the same favorite artist, the same favorite game, and just the same interests across the board. It was strange; we got along so well, and were so similar in so many ways after so many years. And it was strange; I was awful at letting people in, he never really let people in at all. It was as if we had both simultaneously made the other the exception.
My mom later decided to bring me back up to our hometown.
Which is, coincidentally, where he still lived.
So I am there for a few days, and we end up meeting, and he ends up kissing me, and then we end up dating.
Still dating.
Some elementary school romance, eight years of silence, and then this.
I couldn't have known any better, but it seems as if I found my second half when I was 10 years old.
EDIT: We broke up, as all cute love stories end up, it seems. We just were not meant to be. But thank you guys for all the support.

My junior high school was relatively far away from the competition's site. It is about 120km. The competition was held in the city center of the region. So, when I came to the site, I was unfamiliar with the place. I went to the nearby building full of kids my age, neatly seated in rows of desks. I randomly picked a column, and randomly picked a student from the column, she was a girl. I encouraged myself to ask some questions, which I can still remember until now.
"Excuse me, where are Math representatives seated?"
"Oh, it is exactly in this column. You can pick whichever seat you like."
After saying thanks to that cheerful lady. I sat two seats behind her, feeling excited about the competition :). Long story short, the competition ended.
Years passed, I went to a high school in the city center of the region, a school where my father once studied. Three years later, I found myself deeply in love with a girl in my classroom in the 3rd year. We were committed to building a relationship.
Sadly enough, we both enrolled in a different universities very far apart. We tried to settle on a long distance relationship. It was very painful for both of us. Strangely, we managed to overcome that phase, and after 4.5 long years, we both graduated.
But, unfortunately it didn't stop there. Both she and I got accepted in different companies, again, separated further on different islands. After some hard 1.5 years long distance relationship, it suddenly occured in my mind:
What if I was just being a hassle?
What if I was blocking her opportunity to find a better man near her?
What if she grew tired of our relationship and decided to call it off?
What if, instead of making her happy, I make her unhappy with our relationship?
And so many other what if questions.
And one night when we were talking on the phone, I decided to ask her, "Are you happy with me?"
I will never forget her answer at that time.
"Do you remember, you once participated in an Olympiad?" she asked.
"Yes, of course, I participated in a physics Olympiad in high school, right?" I answered.
"No, honey. The one when you were still in junior high school."
"What? How do you know about that? Did I mention it?"
"No."
"Really? Which subject did I participate in?" I teasingly tested her.
"Maths."
"Wha? How do you know??!"
"Do you remember that you asked a girl for where you could be seated in the room?"
At this moment, I was petrified and I hardly even remembered the event. So I dug into my mind and tried hard to remember. Then she suddenly said,
"I was that girl, you know."
I was left speechless, then suddenly I remembered it all. She explained that she also remembered it just recently. Then we just laughed.
Destiny has made us meet each other again, from strangers to something closer. We have been given a chance. The first may have been a coincidence. But the rest are our choices.
Months later, we got officially engaged... ;)
That moment was the best "what the" moment in my life so far...
EDIT:
We just got married on May 16th 2015, almost 8 years after we committed in a relationship, which means 10 years after we just first met in the competition.
Our journey has just begun. But I hope I can become a great husband for her and bring her happiness...
Thank you very much for your upvotes and encouraging comments :)

With an initial investment as low as $10, your money will be invested in the Fund, which already owns more than $1 billion worth of real estate around the country, from apartment complexes to the thriving housing rental market to larger last-mile e-commerce logistics centers.
Want to invest more? Many investors choose to invest $1,000 or more. This is a Fund that can fit any type of investor’s needs. Once invested, you can track your performance from your phone and watch as properties are acquired, improved, and operated. As properties generate cash flow, you could earn money through quarterly dividend payments. And over time, you could earn money off the potential appreciation of the properties.
So if you want to get started in the world of real-estate investing, it takes just a few minutes to sign up and create an account with the Fundrise Flagship Fund.
This is a paid advertisement. Carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of the Fundrise Real Estate Fund before investing. This and other information can be found in the Fund’s prospectus. Read them carefully before investing.
3. Stop Paying Your Credit Card Company
If you have credit card debt, you know. The anxiety, the interest rates, the fear you’re never going to escape… but a website called AmONE wants to help.
If you owe your credit card companies $100,000 or less, AmONE will match you with a low-interest loan you can use to pay off every single one of your balances.
The benefit? You’ll be left with one bill to pay each month. And because personal loans have lower interest rates (AmONE rates start at 6.40% APR), you’ll get out of debt that much faster.
It takes less than a minute and just 10 questions to see what loans you qualify for.
4. Earn $1000/Month by Reviewing Games and Products You Love
Okay, real talk—everything is crazy expensive right now, and let’s be honest, we could all use a little extra cash. But who has time for a second job?
Here’s the good news. You’re already playing games on your phone to kill time, relax, or just zone out. So why not make some extra cash while you’re at it?
With KashKick, you can actually get paid to play. No weird surveys, no endless ads, just real money for playing games you’d probably be playing anyway. Some people are even making over $1,000 a month just doing this!
Oh, and here’s a little pro tip: If you wanna cash out even faster, spending $2 on an in-app purchase to skip levels can help you hit your first $50+ payout way quicker.
Once you’ve got $10, you can cash out instantly through PayPal—no waiting around, just straight-up money in your account.
Seriously, you’re already playing—might as well make some money while you’re at it. Sign up for KashKick and start earning now!
5. Earn Up to $50 this Month By Answering Survey Questions About the News — It’s Anonymous
The news is a heated subject these days. It’s hard not to have an opinion on it.
Good news: A website called YouGov will pay you up to $50 or more this month just to answer survey questions about politics, the economy, and other hot news topics.
Plus, it’s totally anonymous, so no one will judge you for that hot take.
When you take a quick survey (some are less than three minutes), you’ll earn points you can exchange for up to $50 in cash or gift cards to places like Walmart and Amazon. Plus, Penny Hoarder readers will get an extra 500 points for registering and another 1,000 points after completing their first survey.
It takes just a few minutes to sign up and take your first survey, and you’ll receive your points immediately.
6. Earn as Much as $1K/Month Doing Simple Online Tasks
Is there such a thing as easy money? If you know your way around the web, there certainly is.
That’s because data is currency these days, and many companies are willing to pay cash for it — up to $1,000 per month.
Finding these companies can be time-consuming on your own. But a company called Freecash has compiled all sorts of quick cash tasks from about a dozen advertisers and market research companies thirsty for more data. Freecash has paid out over $13 million to users since 2019.
You can pick and choose your tasks and complete them at your convenience. The coins you earn from each completed task can be converted into things like Visa gift cards, Amazon gift cards, cryptocurrency or cold-hard PayPal cash.
Signing up for a Freecash account is easy and there’s no minimum amount you need to earn before you can cash out. And if you’ve got enough free time on your hands, you can join the ranks of Freecash users making more than $1,000 a month in extra cash.
Sign up here to see how much you could earn.
7. Ask This Company to Get a Big Chunk of Your Debt Forgiven
A company called National Debt Relief could convince your lenders to simply get rid of a big chunk of what you owe. No bankruptcy, no loans — you don’t even need to have good credit.
If you owe at least $10,000 in unsecured debt (credit card debt, personal loans, medical bills, etc.), National Debt Relief’s experts will build you a monthly payment plan. As your payments add up, they negotiate with your creditors to reduce the amount you owe. You then pay off the rest in a lump sum.
On average, you could become debt-free within 24 to 48 months. It takes less than a minute to sign up and see how much debt you could get rid of.
8. Get Up to $300 Just for Setting Up Direct Deposit With This Account
If you bank at a traditional brick-and-mortar bank, your money probably isn’t growing much (c’mon, 0.40% is basically nothing).
But there’s good news: With SoFi Checking and Savings (member FDIC), you stand to gain up to a hefty 3.80% APY on savings when you set up a direct deposit or have $5,000 or more in Qualifying Deposits and 0.50% APY on checking balances — savings APY is 10 times more than the national average.
Right now, a direct deposit of at least $1K not only sets you up for higher returns but also brings you closer to earning up to a $300 welcome bonus (terms apply).
You can easily deposit checks via your phone’s camera, transfer funds, and get customer service via chat or phone call. There are no account fees, no monthly fees and no overdraft fees. And your money is FDIC insured (up to $3M of additional FDIC insurance through the SoFi Insured Deposit Program).
It’s quick and easy to open an account with SoFi Checking and Savings (member FDIC) and watch your money grow faster than ever.

We both had children from previous marriages, so didn’t have a lot of time to spare, but did manage to see one another a few times. Not long after, she was offered a job teaching at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, so if we were to be serious about one another, we had to get busy and decided to get married that summer. She had a few part-time teaching jobs in order to keep food on the table. BYU started classes on the day after Labor Day, Tuesday, September 4th that year and her part-time teaching job had her give a final on Saturday morning, September 1st. That didn’t give us much time to move two households into one new home 700 miles away. Her oldest son got a U-Haul truck and drove it out with a full load of our stuff a couple of days earlier. This was in the days BCP (before cell phones), so we arranged to have our new phone installed Friday, August 31st. I knew that it would be slow driving up I-80 and over the Sierra Nevada Mountains (over 7000 ft, so left early on Saturday, moving day, as I was driving my old Chevy pick-up and pulling a trailer, both of which were packed to the gills. My new wife was driving her Toyota Corola which had had a hard life having been used for not one, not two, but three teenagers learning to drive and less than adequate care, for example no oil changes in its 80K mile life. We were both to stop periodically and call the new phone in Provo to keep tabs on one another, but each time we tried, there was no answer. Towns along I-80 in Nevada are few and far between, often separated by 20 to 50 miles of nothing but highway. Although my wife left a few hours after I did, we expected her to catch up with me eventually and we could caravan the rest of the way to Provo. As I was passing one of the few towns around the middle of Nevada, I noticed that the next town was not for another 50 miles, so I pulled into a gas station to refuel and for a futile phone check-in. As I was pulling out, I noticed my wife’s car at a gas station across the street where it had just given up the ghost. It wasn’t going to go any farther - and this was the Labor Day weekend. We locked up her car and left it at the gas station and I was able to cram a few of her things in the back and pack her and her daughter into the front seat of my pickup so we could make it on to Provo that evening. The last we had spoken was early that morning before we left. Although we had planned to check on one another by calling the Provo phone, we were not able to so we had no idea where each other was. We later found that the phone number was assigned, but the phone itself would not to be hooked up until after the holiday. What are the odds that she would limp into that gas station across the street on her car’s last dying breath just before I was about to leave the gas station across the street? We were over 400 miles from where we started to almost 300 miles from where we were going. Had she been a few minutes later or had either of us stopped on the other end of town, we would have missed each other. My only conclusion was that Someone was looking out for us.

Coincidence.
I got admission in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 2006 and soon enough after the result, I got the whole timeline from them, including what dorm (or hostel) I was assigned and when I could get in.
My parents and I thought it would be a good idea to go a week before the classes start as it would give me a good buffer time. More than that, we also thought getting this early will also save us time and hassle. So the idea was to come across as few people as possible in this whole process, so every thing would be smoother.

The letter from IIT told us that there would be IIT buses commuting between the campus and the New Delhi train station every hour for admission days and we could ride it.
So, I reached at the New Delhi station and got on the bus with my dad. The bus was less than 10% occupied when it was about to leave the station for the campus. I was not very social, so I went to the side where there were no people. Just before the bus started, another guy (his name was Anuraj Gupta) came with his father and sat on the same seat where I was. I could overhear the two of them a few times and apparently he seemed very "people" type person, he didn't poke me though.
So we got off the bus in front of my dorm, and guess what, this Anuraj guy was also in the same dorm, and while we were walking to there, he asked me, "Where are you from?", and the whole conversation for that day was this (This conversation was in Hindi, but English translation goes like this):
Anuraj (A2): Where are you from?
Ashish (Me, A1): Kanpur.
A2: Oh me too! Not really expected anyone from Kanpur to come to IIT Delhi. (They mostly chose IIT Kanpur campus)
A1: What department?
A2: Chemical Engineering. You?
A1: Me too! Same city, same department, same dorm, not bad.
A2: Haha. Where did you get your 12th (High School) from?
A1: Deen Dayal, it's in Nawabganj, if you have heard.
A2: Have I heard? I have had my 12th from Deen Dayal!
And as the conversation went on, it turned out he lived hardly 2 miles from my home! And then we were talking more:
A2: Were you in Deen Dayal from 6th grade to 12th then? I came in 9th.
A1: Yes, I got in in 6th grade. Where were you before 9th?
A2: I was in Nav Saraswati School. It's in Govind Nagar.
A1: You are kidding!! I was in that Nav Saraswati school till 5th grade!
And our fathers were just amused how we had almost every detail in common. And just out of curiosity, his father suddenly happened to ask (me), "Do you know what room you are?"
Each of us thought the question was to him, and we said in unison, "NB-8." and he just laughed.
So about an hour before, I had no idea who this guy was, and turned out we went to the same primary school, same middle school, same highschool, same college, same department, lived in the same dorm, and lived in the same dorm room for next two years.
(And not to forget, took the same train that day, stepped on the campus the same day and took the same bus, on a day I had expected the least number of people on my way).
Edit: For the cynics, one of my classmates, Abhijeet Shukla was in that bus too. He commented below, and can validate to an extent.
Edit 2: Yes, it is possible to have never seen a person, despite being in the same school.
Edit 3: To cynics again, I would love to quote Quora User, "On a question asking for great coincidences, people complain that the answer is an example of great coincidence! What a great coincidence. :)"

King Umberto I of Italy
On July 28th 1900, King Umberto I went to a small restaurant in Monza for dinner. There was much excitement in the restaurant. The owner came out to take the King's order personally. This shocked the King, not because the owner was taking his order but because the two of them were like peas in a pod - identical! Same facial looks, build and so on and the King found out there was more - lots more.
- The King and the restaurant owner both had the same name, Umberto.
- Both were born on March 14, 1844 and in the same town. But it didn't end there.
- Their wives were called Margheri

- Both the couples had a son named Vittorio.
- King Umberto was crowned on the same day the restaurant was opened by Umberto the owner.
- They served in the Italian military and were both promoted on the same day to different ranks.
As we can imagine, the King was knocked out by this doppelganger, so much so that he decided that the following day the owner should visit the royal palace.
The next day arrived, as they often do, and it was the 29th of July 1900. Umberto, the restaurant owner, couldn't however take up his invitation. He had been killed in a shooting accident.
The King was deeply shocked. The very same day an assassin aimed his gun and shot the King through the heart.
- The final coincidence was, therefore, that they were both killed on the same day.

The fact that the Sun and Moon appear to be almost exactly the same relative size in the Earth's sky is a cosmic coincidence. It lets this happen:
Note that sometimes the Moon is a bit further from the Earth in its orbit, and you get an "Annular" eclipse as the relative size of the Moon is a bit smaller than the Sun:

Today I was at a cafe buying my lunch and debated inside my head whether to also buy a cookie. I ultimately decided I hadn't worked out enough this week to deserve a treat and left without one.
Then I took my lunch away with me and found that someone at the cafe had inadvertently packed a slice of cake in my order. Perhaps the universe decided I deserved cake, not cookies?

One day I was bored so I thought I would pass my time on Omegle cause it seemed like my room-mate was really busy working on her laptop. After a couple of random small chats I finally found a sensible person to talk to. The conversation was getting interesting. It rarely happens that you find a sensible stranger on such social networking sites. After about 20 mins of chatting we started asking questions about each other. And it took us another 10 mins to realize..
We are roommates!!

Fast forward to five years later. I went for this design class where again, a new guy had joined. Introductions were made. His name was Naveen and he played football full power. Then suddenly I thought this month is November, date could be 2 or 1 and not exactly 3 it could be. Had this been Nov 03, what a beautiful coincidence it would have been😕. All these thought came and went in milliseconds.
Anyways be it 1 or 2 i should atleast check, and then immediately I screen locked my phone to check date, it was November 3!! 44 minutes past 12. I relaxed myself, though not a big deal but still moment worth enjoying. 😁What I was thinking it would have been, actually has occurred. 😇
So thought I should share it on the Facebook. I don’t know why coincidences keep on happening with me. There a still lot many incidents rather co-incidences to share.

It was the 60’s. I was a sophomore at Rutgers, and my friend Dennis and I decided to spend our January winter break hitchhiking from New Brunswick, NJ to Niagara Falls, NY to see the Falls frozen over. We figured we could do the entire round trip in five days, and my 19-year-old brain calculated that all I needed was a change of socks and underwear, $10, and a bag of jelly beans for sustenance. I also had unlimited faith in the kindness of strangers.

We figured we could do the entire round trip in five days, and my 19-year-old brain calculated that all I needed was a change of socks and underwear, $10, and a bag of jelly beans for sustenance. I also had unlimited faith in the kindness of strangers.
We spent the first night with my cousin in Schenectady, the second at the Syracuse chapter of our fraternity, and arrived at Niagara Falls NY on the third night in the middle of a snowstorm. The man who dropped us off knew the owner of a beautiful hotel near the Falls, and that night Dennis and I were comped to a fantastic suite on the top floor. Three bedrooms, spectacular view — hey, it was January — business was slow.
The next morning we crossed the border into Canada, and since we were a day ahead of schedule, why not hitch to Toronto. A tow truck picked us up, and good fortune was still with us. The driver, Mike, was on his way to Toronto.
For the next two hours, Dennis, Mike, and I bonded and shared our dwindling supply of jelly beans. Mike dropped us off in the heart of Toronto, and Dennis and I wandered around the city. My ten bucks was still intact, so we decided to cap off the trip by splurging most of it on lunch in a real restaurant. As we set out for the 500 mile trip back to Jersey I realized I’d lost my gloves.
No problem. Dennis gave me one of his, and we found the road out of the city, got to a highway, and stuck out our thumbs. Five minutes later, our first ride stopped. A tow truck. It was Mike.
We hopped in and the three of greeted each other like we’d been separated for years, and this is the long overdue reunion we’ve been waiting for. We told Mike all about our big day in the city, and bragged how we had blown most of our resources on a real lunch. Then the three of us polished off what was left of the jelly beans.
“So you’re out of money, out of jelly beans, and you’re each down to one glove,” Mike said.
We laughed. We didn’t care. We’d just taken the road trip of a lifetime.
“Open the glove compartment,” Mike said.
I did. There inside, warm and dry, were my gloves. Dennis doo-doo-doo-dooed the theme from The Twilight Zone, which I believe should be the official background music of all coincidences.
It wasn’t until Mike dropped us off on the American side of the border that I saw the name of his towing company. Road Angel.

The similarities between Robertson’s book and the Titanic disaster are so astounding that one has to imagine if White Star Line built Titanic to Robertson’s specs as a dare.
- Both were triple screw (propeller)
- Described as “unsinkable”
- The Titanic was the world’s largest luxury liner (882 feet, displacing 63,000 long tons), and was once described by newspapers as being “practically unsinkable”.
- The Titan was the largest craft afloat and the greatest of the works of men (800 feet, displacing 75,000 tons, up from 45,000 in the 1898 edition), and was considered “unsinkable”.
- Shortage of lifeboats
- The Titanic carried only 16 lifeboats, plus 4 Engelhardt folding lifeboats, less than half the number required for her passenger and crew capacity of 3000.
- The Titan carried “as few as the law allowed”, 24 lifeboats, less than half needed for her 3000 capacity.
- Struck an iceberg
- Moving at 22½ knots, [7] the Titanic struck an iceberg on the starboard side on the night of April 14, 1912 in the North Atlantic 400 miles away from Newfoundland.
- Also on an April night, in the North Atlantic 400 miles from Newfoundland (Terranova), the Titan hit an iceberg while traveling at 25 knots, also on the starboard side.
- Sinking
- The unsinkable Titanic sank, and more than half of her 2200 passengers and crew died.
- The indestructible Titan also sank, more than half of her 2500 passengers drowning.
- Went down bow first, the Titan actually capsizing before it sank.
Sound like enough to keep you up at night? Maybe that’s why Robertson republished the book in 1912 just in case enough people didn’t know that he wrote it.

Mark Twain and the Halley’s Comet
Mark Twain was born in the year 1835, shortly after the visit of the Halley’s Comet (a comet visible from earth every 75-76 years) that year. He died as it passed again in 1910.
More interestingly, he predicted it - "I came in with Halley's Comet... It is coming again ... and I expect to go out with it... The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together' ”, he said in 1909

We decided to play some roulette. We were betting on some numbers and both of us had put some money on the 35, not much though. The croupier throws the ball into the roulette and bam! 35 comes up.
I was pretty happy with my winnings so I wanted to take all I had won and call it a day. My father tells me, "no, leave the chips you put on 35, if by any chance it comes up again you'll feel a little stupid for not leaving them in and if you lose, you still have already won much more than that small amount".
So I did as he told me.
We looked at each other and we both put just a little more on the 35. Why? I don't know, why not?
You can imagine where this is going by now. Lo and behold, 35 came up again. By then we were both pretty happy with our winnings so we wanted to call it at a day with that. But the same line of thought came back. What if 35 comes up for a third time in a row? As unlikely as it was we couldn't just leave it at that so we put a little more money on the 35. No one else on the table did, who could blame them? It's hard to ignore the little voice in the back of your head that believes in the Gambler's fallacy.
And then, Bam! Sweet holy Spaghetti monster! 35 came up again! The rest of the people in the table looked at us in disbelief as we picked up our winnings and left the table with big grins on our faces.
The biggest coincidence in this story isn't that number 35 came up three times in a row while we bet on it. The biggest insanely unbelievable coincidence is that this happened again a year later. With. the. same. number.
I wouldn't blame you if you didn't believe this story, I have a hard time believing it myself, and it happened to me.
