My question to you is what is driving you now to ask that question now? This would take some self reflection on how happy are you now? Sometimes, people look too much in what they don't have and not what they have. Planning for the future is a positive and healthy activity. I would suggest making sure this is used in a productive manner and not in a self defeating way. How satisfied are you with aspects of your life.Often times, when people attempt to take stock in their life, it can become overwhelming in trying to conceptualize all the tasks one needs to do to be successful.
I would suggest an activity I have clients do. First take stock of where you are now This could include, but not limited to : spiritual, financial, career, family, social, and recreational. There may be other areas you want to look at but this would be a start. Next, you can list the way things are and the way you would like things to be. When you put this in writing, it could help break unproductive, self defeating thoughts(I am not successful in life) to I need to find more friends. The former thought becomes an opinion or belief which could lead to negative feelings such as: poor self image, depression and hopelessness. The later statement offers solutions and more feeling of control over your life(I will join a club to meet new people). This exercise also allows you to prioritize areas in your that may take on more meaning. Quality of life means something different for each person.
